How VATSIM Türkiye collects, uses, and protects information on vatsim.tr.

VATSIM Türkiye (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website vatsim.tr (“the Website”). We are the Turkish Virtual Area Control Centre on the VATSIM network (facility TURK, VATEUD). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Website.
By using the Website, including signing in with VATSIM Connect, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Data Controller
VATSIM Türkiye (TRvACC) is the data controller for personal data processed on this Website. To exercise your GDPR rights, write to the nominated person below.

We process data to operate the Website (legitimate interests) and, when you log in, because you choose to authenticate with VATSIM Connect.
2. Information We Collect
When you browse or sign in, we may collect and process:
- VATSIM Connect profile data (if you log in): CID, full name, email address, country, ATC and pilot ratings, region, division, and related VATSIM membership details. We request only the OAuth scopes needed to identify you and operate the site (
full_name,email,vatsim_details,country). - Roster and endorsement data from VATEUD Core for controllers on the TRvACC roster (CID, rating, home/visitor status, and endorsements).
- Feedback you submit: your name, CID, comments, rating, and any controller callsign or CID you provide. Login is required so staff know who sent the report.
- Technical data: session cookies, security tokens, and server logs such as IP address, browser type, and requested URLs, used for operation and abuse prevention.
- Public network data: live VATSIM traffic and METAR weather shown on the map are taken from public VATSIM/aviation feeds. We cache this briefly to run the live display; we do not use it to build marketing profiles.
We do not collect payment data, passwords (VATSIM authenticates you), or private messages. The public controller roster shows CID only, not names.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Provide the Website, member account page, and staff admin tools.
- Identify you after VATSIM Connect login and assign site roles (member, staff, admin).
- Keep the TRvACC roster and endorsements in sync with VATEUD Core.
- Review ATC feedback and follow up with the people involved.
- Operate live FIR status, events, documents, and related vACC services.
- Maintain security, prevent misuse, and comply with VATSIM, VATEUD, and applicable law.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
4. Cookies and Sessions
The Website uses a strictly necessary session cookie (trvacc_session) to keep you signed in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. It is HTTP-only, marked Secure on HTTPS, and uses SameSite=Lax. We do not set advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
5. Data Storage and Retention
- Data is stored on servers used to host vatsim.tr (including a MariaDB database on that host).
- Only authorised TRvACC staff and administrators can access member records, feedback, and the admin panel.
- Account records are kept while you remain a VATSIM member who uses the site, or while you appear on the VATEUD TRvACC roster.
- Feedback is kept as long as needed for quality review, then may be deleted or anonymised.
- Session data expires when you log out or when the browser session ends. Short-lived live-traffic caches are discarded automatically.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share data only:
- With VATSIM as part of Connect authentication (you authorise this when you log in).
- With VATEUD Core when we read or refresh roster, endorsement, staff, and event data for facility TURK.
- With TRvACC staff who need it to run training, membership, events, or feedback.
- If required by law, regulation, or VATSIM/VATEUD policy.
- With infrastructure providers that host the Website, solely to operate the service.
The public site may show CID on the roster, given names on the staff page, and event content from VATEUD Core. Live callsigns on the map come from the public VATSIM datafeed.
7. Third-party services
Pages may load resources from VATSIM, VATEUD, OpenStreetMap/Leaflet map tiles, and web font providers. Those services have their own privacy policies. Signing in takes you to auth.vatsim.net.
8. Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the GDPR you have, in particular, these three rights:
Rectification
Ask us to correct personal data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
Erasure
Ask us to delete your personal data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to records we must keep for VATSIM/VATEUD operations.
To exercise any of these rights, write to the vACC Director at , or via Support, as named in section 1. You can also review much of your profile on the Account page after logging in.
You may also have further rights, including restriction of processing, objection, and data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
9. Security
We use HTTPS, access-controlled admin tools, and session protections to reduce unauthorised access, misuse, or disclosure. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Website is intended for VATSIM members. VATSIM requires users to meet its minimum age (typically 13, or the digital consent age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children under that age. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published at https://vatsim.tr/privacy. Continued use of the Website after an update means you accept the revised policy.
